Gentle Wellness does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

- Passwords or login credentials

- Device information or hardware identifiers

Data Storage
The extension stores the following data locally on your device only using Chrome's sync storage:
- Reminder Settings: Your preferences for eye care, posture, hydration, movement, and mindfulness reminders (enabled/disabled status and time intervals)
- Blue Light Filter Settings: Your filter preferences including mode (Light/Standard/Strong), intensity level, and warmth level
- Dark Mode Settings: Whether dark mode protection is enabled or disabled
Important: All settings are stored using Chrome's built-in sync storage. If you're signed into Chrome with sync enabled, your settings may sync across your devices through Google's servers. This is handled entirely by Chrome, not by our extension.
How the Extension Works
Reminder System
The extension uses Chrome's Alarms API to schedule wellness reminders at intervals you set. These reminders:
- Run locally on your device
- Do not send any data externally
- Display notifications only on your device
- Can be enabled, disabled, or customized at any time
Blue Light Filter & Dark Mode
The blue light filter and dark mode features work by:
- Injecting visual overlays on web pages you visit
- Applying CSS styling and visual filters directly in your browser
- Not reading, modifying, or collecting any website content
- Not accessing forms, passwords, or personal information on pages
- Working entirely offline without external connections
Permissions Explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions. Here's exactly why each one is needed:
- notifications: Required to display wellness reminder alerts at your chosen intervals (eye care, posture, hydration, movement, mindfulness)
- alarms: Required to schedule recurring reminders. We use Chrome's Alarms API instead of JavaScript timers because it persists across browser restarts and doesn't consume resources when idle
- storage: Required to save your preferences locally, including reminder settings, filter intensity, warmth levels, and enabled/disabled states. All data stays on your device
Content Script Access (all websites): The extension injects a content script on all websites to apply the blue light filter and dark mode overlays. This script ONLY creates visual filter layers and does not read, modify, collect, or transmit any page content, user data, or browsing information. The broad access is necessary because the filter must work on any website you visit.
What We Do NOT Access
Even though the extension runs on all websites, it does NOT:
- Read website content or text
- Access form inputs or user-entered data
- Capture passwords or login credentials
- Monitor browsing history or URLs
- Track user behavior or analytics
- Modify website functionality or content
- Inject advertisements or tracking scripts
- Communicate with external servers
Third-Party Services
Gentle Wellness does not use any third-party services, including:
- No analytics services (Google Analytics, etc.)
- No advertising networks
- No external APIs or servers
- No social media integrations
- No tracking pixels or beacons
- No cloud services or databases
The extension operates completely independently and offline.
Data Sharing
Since we don't collect any data, we have nothing to share. We do not:
- Sell your data to anyone
- Share data with third parties
- Transmit data to external servers
- Use your data for advertising or profiling
- Provide data to law enforcement (we have no data to provide)
Children's Privacy
Gentle Wellness does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age. The extension is safe for users of all ages.

You have complete control over the extension and your data:
- All settings can be changed at any time through the extension popup
- Individual reminders can be enabled or disabled independently
- Filters can be adjusted or turned off instantly
- You can reset all settings to defaults with one click
- Uninstalling the extension removes all stored settings permanently
- No data persists after uninstallation
Security
Since all data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted:
- There is no risk of data breaches from our servers (we have no servers)
- Your settings are as secure as your Chrome browser
- No passwords or credentials are ever stored by the extension
